    Inequalities - concept and Tips - Lesson 2

               sponsored links

     In coded inequalities , which are generally called Symbols and Notations,   relationships are shown with the help of symbols, mathematical signs . This symbol/ sign will be  assigned with a value which is defined using information in English language.

    3 Very Important steps( Tips)
    Step 1:  Write down the given symbols and beside it note down the relation it indicates by reading given information.
    Step 2: Note down the given statement by mentioning the relation it denotes from above point. (Instead of symbols)
    Step 3: Step by step go through conclusions substituting relation instead of symbol .

    Note: Step 1 will take maximum 1 minute and If you follow above tips you can surely solve each question within 20 seconds.

    Let us apply above tips and explain them in live examples.

    Questions:
    P % Q means P is neither smaller than nor equal to Q
    P * Q (Space) means  P is not greater than Q
    P $ Q means P is not smaller than Q
    P # Q means P is neither greater than nor equal to Q
    P @ Q means P is neither greater than nor smaller than Q

    1. Statements
     D * R, R # M, M @ K, K % F

    Conclusions:
    I. F $ M
    II. K @ R
    III. K % R
    IV. D @ M

    Options:
    1 . None is true
    2. Only II is true
    3. Only III is true
    4. Only IV is true

    Solution:
    Step 1: Write down symbols and there relation
    %  >
    *   ≤
    $
    #   <
    @  =

    Step 2: Note down the given statement with relations
    ≤ R < M = K > F

    Step 3:
    ≥ M   False
    K = R  False
    K > R True
    D = M  False

    So, Answer is 3

    Note:  For next questions we can skip step 1 as it is common for remaining questions also

    2.Statements
      R $ M, B @ A, A % K, K # M

    Conclusions:
    I. M @ A
    II. K $ B
    III. A % R
    IV. K # R

    Options:
    1. Only IV is true
    2. Only I and IV are true
    3. Only I, III and IV are true
    4. Only II and III are true

    Solution:

    Step 2: Note down the given statement with relations
     R  B,  B= A > K < M

    Step 3:
    M = A  False
    ≥ B   False
    A > R False
    K < M  True

    So correct answer is 1
