1) Veteran Poet Balrishan Garg is honoured with 2nd edition of Harikrishan Devasare Baalsahitya Award 2015 for his collection of poems for children with title ‘Baal Geet’.This award is presented by Sahitya Akademi President vishwanath Prasad Tiwari and National Book Trust Chiarman Baldeo bhai sharma.

4) Sania Mirza(India)- Martina Hingis(Switzerland) pair has won WTA Brisbane International Tennis Trophy 2016 in the women’s doubles category by defeating Angelinque Kerber- Andrea Petkovic (Germany pair) in the final match.
5) Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) has won the WTA Brisbane International Tennis trophy in the Women’s singles category by defeating Angelique Kerber (Germany) .
6) President Pranab Mukherjee has Promulgated ENEMY PROPERTY(AMENDMENT AND VALIDATION) ORDINANCE, 2016 to make amendment to Enemy property act, 1968 These amendments seeks to deal with loopholes in existing law.
7) Governor rule has been imposed in Jammu Kashmir as process of formation of new government following death of chief minster Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is going to take time and governor NN Vohra recommended it.
8) Urjit Patel reappointed as Governor of RBI for a second term by Union government. So, his tenure is extended for another 3 years. Urjit patel looks after Monetary policy, Economic Policy Research, Deposit insurance, etc.
9) New Delhi World Book Fair 24th edition was inaugurated by HRD Minister Smriti Irani on 9th January .This year’s theme is ‘Vivid Bharat-Diverse India’. The message of India-china partnership for this book fair is “Renaissance of Civilizations- understanding through exchanges”
10) Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas 14th Edition was held in New Delhi inaugurated by External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on January 9th . On this two important announcements were made 1.Issuing of Aadhar cards to Non resident Indians 2. Gulf country going women workers to go thorugh only government agencies to prevent slavery
